Re: Binding for bait

Hi Brian

I'd opt for mixing in some powdered semolina, its often used as a binding/bulk ingredient for cheap boilies.

Best place to look would be Carp Baits - ccmoore

EDIT: Oops, here's a direct link to it on ccmoore Carp Baits - Base Mix Ingredients from CC Moore

Re: Binding for bait

I cant garuntee it as it's not something ive ever attempted before, normally i use boilies but have used paste but kep it soft but if it were me trying to harden up a paste then thats what i'd experiment with first. I'm assuming that you're moulding the paste around the hook?
If that's what your doing then it might also be worth just allowing the paste to air dry for a while, make up a second hooklength and use a quick link clip so you can have one drying out while the other is in the water.

As for spices, i've successfully used curry powder and pepper oil in boilie mixes but i've always seemed to do better on fishy baits using salmon oil and GLM extract.

Re: Binding for bait

Hi Tom again

I am using pilchards, bread crumb, and gelatine, for the paste, and wrap it round hook like you say. But the little fish tend to nibble it and knock it of hook. It`s a good bait if you have plenty of carp. so was thinking of trying to make the paste harder so the little fish cant knock it off.

Re: Binding for bait

How about making some boilies using a similar mix? they could easily be hair rigged or just side hooked. If i were to attempt to make some of these on a tight budget i'd probably start with:

6 eggs
300g approx soya flour (good carbohydrate source and bulks it out)
300g approx powdered semolina (good carbohydrate content and binder)
30g Gelatine as a binding agent
If you can get tinned pilchards in oil then you could use the oil and flake in some pilchard for good measure
If you want to colour it then you can get powdered colour specifically for making boilies which is relatively cheap at around £3 for a tub which is enough to do around 20 mixes

So would start with mixing all the dry ingredients together, then separately crack the eggs into a large bowl and then add the wet ingredients to the eggs, add your colour if your using any to the wet or dry ingredients depending what it says on the tub, slowly mix the powdered mix into the wet mix until it becomes really stiff and not so sticky that it sticks to your hands.

Roll out into sausages and then chop them up and hand roll to make balls of your desired size. Then get an old sieve and put it into an old pan of boiling water and boil small batches for around 2 to 3 minutes, then allow them to air dry (i used an old towel before i made an air drying tray) for around 16-24 hours and you'll then need to store them in the freezer in a bag to stop them going mouldy.

you could also keep a tub of the pilchard oil and use it as a bait soak putting some into it to soak for a few hours before fishing.

I even went into hooland and Barret, and all they had was Liquid aminos wild cherry flavour is this what i have been told about it has alot of the aminos i read about in it.

Also how much of the compound would i put in if i can get it please, please help

Re: Binding for bait

Ask for liver powder - put as much as you like in because its natural, the more the better in my opinion
