Gluggs and Dips
Hi all, after your thoughts on gluggs and dips, I understand that they are for use on bankside for dipping and soaking. I have heard about air drying your boillies for a couple of weeks, and then either soaking in dips or making up your own addative and allow the bollie to take in the flavour and keep repeating. Have any of you guy's tried this, if so was it sucessfull.

Re: Gluggs and Dips
Hi Carbagger
You can do it a number of ways. You get hookbaits already in soaks or soak your own bait in them. I've used glugs a number of times. I tend to use the ones that match the bait and heat the pot in water on the bankside (careful it get's really hot). You can then either fish with your glugged bait or dip it in pellets or maggots for extra attraction.

I think it can give you a edge as regards dips try honey on sweet boilies and marmite on boilies like fishy types

Re: Gluggs and Dips
Thanks for your input guys, will give your suggestions a go. Do you or any other lads on here use any of the Mainline addatives, I picked some up from a car boot sale a few weeks ago. The one I have is Mainline Response flavour (Pineapple), there are no instructions or guide lines on the bottle as to quantities or ratio's if any. Have contacted Mailine re any info on usage but nothing forthcoming, unless anyone on here any info. Thanks.

Re: Gluggs and Dips
i use glugs quite a lot, normally when ive taken baits out the freezer. The glug freezes round the baits and when the baits thaws the baits draw all the flavour in the boilies.

Re: Gluggs and Dips
i personally only use glugs for singles.
anglers talk about carp kowing there being fished for and are riggy etc etc, so why would you wanna make your hookbait stand out from the non glugged freebees. surely this makes it easy for them to spot the trap????? glugs are a rip off and there pretty much a waste of time unless soaked as the water washes it of as it falls through the water column. |

Re: Gluggs and Dips
Carpcruncher has got a good point tho, but i wouldnt go as far as saying they are a waste of time, but need to be used in the correct circumstances. If you are fishing a highly pressured water that isnt highly stocked then it may be best to avoid a glug as CC said it potentially could make your bait appear different to the freebies. However if fishing a highly stocked water where carp are competing for food then potentially having a bait with extra attraction could produce much better results.
As he did say though, best results are achieved by soaking them for a fair period otherwise glugs will just mostly wash straight off as soon as they go in the water. Another thing to remember is that some glugs arnt well suited to winter fishing due to colder water temperatures, especially any with fish-oils in them as the oil tends to emulsify in the cold water and carp will find them much harder to digest and it may have the opposite to the desired effect Hope this helps |
