Imitation or Natural Baits

When using baits such as maggots, sweetcorn, maize etc do you prefer to use imitation bait or go for the real thing.

For me I tend to fish with say imitation corn as a hookbait over a bed of real corn or use the imitation corn on a hair rig over a bed of pellet mainly during the winter months when they seem to turn on to feeding less.

Re: Imitation or Natural Baits

Imitations are better IMHO coz theyre less likely to be ripped off the hair. i always found that normal corn gets ripped off by silvers or the bait gets ripped off the hair by something without me getting any indication of a bite

Re: Imitation or Natural Baits

I normally use the yellow stuff, or imitation maize and use it as a hair stop or for holding luncheon meat on a hair it works quite well for that. Not tried imitation pellet yet.

I quite like the idea of the floating plastic bread as one problem I always have is getting bread to stay on the hook when floating it, I can see that being quite a benefit really not having to worry about it coming off. I would draw the line at that floating glow in the dark bread as I cant see how that can possibly look "natural"

Re: Imitation or Natural Baits

Most bait we put in front of carp is unnatural. Yellow boilles how natural is that.
I use fake baits all the time, corn, maize, pellets, maggots and boilies and have caught on then all. Carp are inquizative bottom feeders and will pick up lots of items to try them. So why not
