Need some ideas

Well i was going to buy one of those sets from argos where you get alot of kit for about £200, but i have decided to just get a decent rod and reel and buy the rest seperate.
Now i have no idea about what rods and reels are good. So i need your help, im looking for a good strong rod that will be able to handle bigger 40lb+ fish, but ill still be able to have fun catching smaller >10lb fish.
Ill also need a reel that will be up for the job, im fishing small lakes at the moment but im looking to go to some bigger places, so i may need a long distance caster.
Ive got bout £100 - £150 to spend on this, but obv the best for the least money is good

Re: Need some ideas

Just to confirm what Simmo62 said - I own some Outkasts in 2.5lb test curve and they quite happily managed my PB at 41lb 6oz. At no time did I feel that I was in trouble for power and the lower test curves help with avoiding hook pulls. I would not go above 2.75lb for this reason as a new starter.

Re: Need some ideas

Thanks for the help guys.
Ive found it here for a reasonable price:

fishingwarehouseshop.co.uk/product_info.php/cPath/11/products_id/2678

(just add www at the front)
Anyone shopped here before? knw if its any good?

/edit: And as i am a beginner, do you recommend the 2.5 or 2.75 tc?

Re: Need some ideas

I don't think you would be disappointed with either but 2.75 is normally considered the best all rounder and, heaven forbid, if you change your mind they might be easier to sell at a good price.
However having seen others casting with my 2.5lb's past their own 2.75 (more expensive) rods I do not feel the need to change them and if I need real distance I would buy some 3.5's and big pit reels to go with them.

Re: Need some ideas

i would go for a new sonik sk4 rod mint quality had hold of and felt them myself also there set to double in price next year so it would be a good investment. for reels i would push the boat out a bit and go for the daiwa emcast evo

sonik sk4 rod £150
daiwa emcast evo £50

£200 for the lot and you wont go wrong

ALSO WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK ABOUT THE NEW SONIK SK4 RODS
