Re: Hooklength materials

I prefer to go as light as possible and never use much about a 2.5oz lead normally. I think a lot of it is just a preference thing but also a lot of the lakes i fish have deep silt patches so going much over that would pull my bait way down into the black stuff.

Re: Hooklength materials

Another factor is the shape of the lead, dumpy, flat pears etc dont tend to bury themselves so much so i'd say stepping up on that would probably be ok but i'd hate to cast a chod rig on a 4oz and never get the lead out it's happened to me a few times in the past.

Exclamation Re: Hooklength materials

the chod rig or the short rig was invented for fishing short rigs over deep silt so i wouldent have a problem using a heavy lead when fishing in silt but i would if i where fishing into weed

Re: Hooklength materials

true but im on about the shape of the lead, something like the fox horizon leads would be ok for that but if i were using say a korda distance lead they are a very aerodynamic shape and tend to bury real deep and are a pain to get back out, now if im struggling to pull it back out of the black stuff with a rod then it's possible I could experience a take and the fish wouldnt be able to move the lead either
