Line and end tackle
Hi there, I have been an on/off course angler for the last 30 years using simple line, float and hook setup, and lovin it even though I couldnt get the chance to go on a regular basis.
Scratching my head for christmas present ideas for myself, I discided that now that the kids are older and I have more free time, to make fishing a full time hobby. I have all the bits that are needed for a double rod setup, barring the line and end tackle. I plan goto my regular lake and the carp go up to about 28lb. I have looked through the forums but have not had much luck with finding basic line information. So guys which lb line do you advise I need to load up and rig setup and weight. Thanks. |

Re: Line and end tackle
Hi there f4uxy. I personally use a 12lb flourocarbon line, a lot of that is to do with personal choice though, the obvious downside of using larger breaking strain lines is as the diameter gets thicker the less supple they become so I try and get away with a low as breakin strain as I can.
As for rigs, a lot depends on the situation you are fishing in, the type of lakebed you are fishing over. I'd say where possible try and get away with a simple running lead rig to start with. Hope this helps |

Re: Line and end tackle
Thanks, for your advice.
The breaking Lb of a line is never discused on forums, only the brand. Obviously the security(breaking) of the line is always a concern, but I don't want to go to high on Lb because of the diameter influencing line in the water. Off to the tackle shop I go.....well as long as it stops snowing! |

Re: Line and end tackle
Hi F4uxy
Try Diawa Sensor brown 12lb Mono. Good quality stuff which won't break the bank. As for rigs I favour braid for better presentation. You can get ready made braid rigs from most places or tie your own. Check the place you are fishing allows braid rigs though. I'd start with a simple running lead to begin with.
