main line problems
hi guys
i've got a bit of a problem, reloaded my spools last week with some X-Line and this was the first time ive used them since and they keep turning into a birdsnest everytime i cast out. Is this something i've done wrong when i loaded the line on? |

I'm no expert but it seems to me that you have either put too much line on them or put it on the wrong way, i was always taught to put the spool in a bucket of water and it sorts itself out.. but try taking some line off, leave about an 1/8th of an inch from the lip, Go to an isolated Lake not full of Anglers and put a heavish weight on and welly it out as far as you can and wind it back again and it should be ok...Hope this helps...zebs

Re: main line problems
Zeb's is spot on there it does sound like line twist, X-Line is a bit of a weird one, did you lay the spool of line down flat with the label facing upwards when you spooled up the reel.
If it doesnt work using a normal lead you could try getting a Spin Docter, theyre about £3.50 from most tackle shops and are designed to remove line twist but a lead will often work fine in that situation too |

I've seen them advertised there are three sizes of weight, they look handy items to have just to keep and use now and hen especially with Free spool use...zebs

Re: main line problems
I've got the red one, its pretty well suited for 12-15lb line and does exactly what you'd expect. There was a member here a little while ago Joe who had just decided to take up carp fishing (also know the gentleman from work) he'd spooled up his reels wrong, basically put a 90 degree twist throughout the entire spool. Rather than reloading the spool I suggested we tried using my spindoctor out since we were first on the venue tha day, tied it on and absolutely wanged it out across the entire length of the lake, did that twice and problem completely solved so they definately do work

I must add it to my list, I have this list in my pocket of things that i need to start carping, it's still pretty long but i'll get there....zebs

Re: main line problems
Yikes, I can remember when i first started, using a single rod with an optonic bite alarm on banksticks with a monkey climber and couldnt afford baitrunners so had to make do with fishing an open bail arm with a line clip lol these will probably sound totally alien to most people now
