Re: shock leaders

A shock leader is just part of a range of kit you will need if you are really serious about casting a lead a long way.
Most people start by buying large TC rods big pit reels and heavy leads.
They should really start with a few hours casting tuition from an expert to start with. Then make sure there own kit is correctly set up. And then and only then get some tackle only if needed to get the distances you require.

My Casting set up is as follows
Greys Platimum 13' 3.5tc rods with 50mm eyes
Daiwa Basia loaded with 12 Daiwa Infinity HT line
Fox 45lb to 15lb tapered leaders
4.5 oz distance leads fished helicopter style single baits.

I hope this helps mate.
Dave if you are going to the Evesham event I will give you some casting tips if we have space and time .

Regards

Ian G

Re: shock leaders

thanks gemo, thats much appreciated.

as you know from previous posts i have the daiwa duo line but will be replaced for ht in the next few weeks. my requirement is not just for launching a lead a far way but to be able to cast the method or a pva to a similar distance to what i can cast with just a single bait. (which aint far anyway. lol)

current setup is:- 12ft 3lb tc berkley b2's (which i think has 40mm butt), shimano big pits, (will have ht 16lb)
various leads upto 3.5oz

Re: shock leaders

I have to be honest and say in reality you just wont do it mate. The method or PVA bag is just not as aerodynamic as a lead with a single bait and therefor wont cast as far.
Your set up seem fine mate I have no issues with what you are using Technique is the key though.
