barbel fishing
Just wondering weather there’s much difference between Barbel and Carp fishing in terms of the tackle needed for both species. I’m set up for carp fishing, but would there be an additional cost should I choose to start fishing for Barbel? Perhaps this is a daft question but hey! I’m new to all this.

Re: barbel fishing
lighter t/c rods. 1.5 up to 2.25 for deep fast flowing rivers.
smaller reels. same bait and rigs will work. |

Re: barbel fishing
Bought a pair of Defender 2.25 Carp rods by JRC. And two Fox Stratos fs 7000 reels. Are they too big for the job, or does it matter? And i've also seen a few Barbel fishermen using quiver tips as apposed to buzzers. Do they actually use them for Barbel?

Re: barbel fishing
if you get a take from a barbel you wont need buzzers as you'll be grabbing your rod to stop it getting pulled in. an 8lb barbel fights harder than any carp.
you can use them rods, not ideal but they will do the job. have the butts on the floor and tips pointing up. |

Re: barbel fishing
John I think your carp rods would do at a push mate but I would strongly recommend braid main line. This being thinner than mono offers the rig(lead) less resistance from the water flow on the line allowing smaller lighter leads plus the non stretch braid allows far better bite indication

Re: barbel fishing
barbel fishing seems very very similar to carp fishing these days, so close it even gets called 'carbelling'
