New to carp fishing

hello im new to carp fishing and this forum
and was just wondering if i could get some advice from some more experienced anglers.
i went carp fishing today was not sucesfull in catching carp but got 2 decent bream.
but towards the last hour of my day my buzzer just went berzerk i presumed it was a carp because it took it so quik but not sure because i have never caught one.
Then i went to strike it and the fish instantly got off the hook.
so i re-bait my rig and cast out again about half an hour later the exact same thing happened.
can anyone give me any advice on what i am doing wrong and how i can improve.

thanks in advance

Hello Trasler
Welcome to carp-fish Trasler
You are obviously doing something right to catch two large bream and have two takes in consequtive casts. Its difficult to pin point the catual problem without understanding exactly how your rig was set and tied a picture of your rig would be very helpful if possible other wise we are all shooting in the dark.

Hi Trasler,
Gemo's right (as always eh!). We'd all be shooting in the dark really, and just guessing what you may be doing wrong without seeing your setup. But one thing I'd say is don't forget that if a fish has picked your bait up and headed off with it, it's hooked itself so there's no need to strike hard into the fish. If you do, you've got a greater chance of pulling the pulling the hook out and maybe damaging the fishes mouth. (sound familiar gemo? hehe)

Re: New to carp fishing

question 1 what reels are you using
question 2 what hooks are you using and what size
question 3 how tight is your front or rear drag so the fish can take line when you have one on
