Burglars: How far would you go.
After watching Beating the Burglars on ITV tonight, your thoughts on how far would you go to protect your family and property if you got broken into whilst you were at home. Myself I have a few supprise's ready for them if they did, and it's not make a cup of tea, it would be a case of putting them down (sod reasonable force
) any way possible so they can't get up, but I would not chase them down the road if they got away, too bloody old to catch them lol.

Re: Burglars: How far would you go.
I think it depends on where you live to how much force you could get away with, if that makes any sence. I live right in the middle of salford in manchester and im sure that you would get a way with more down here than you would in a nicer area. Getting back to the question if i ever caught anyone in my property they would be living with an affliction for the rest of there lives,
Just shows how stupid this country is with its idiotic laws where criminals have more rights than the victims. |

At times the law is an ass, if someone enters my property uninvited, then they will live with the consequences, end of

Re: Burglars: How far would you go.
I dont agree with a lot of american law/policy but I do agree with their laws regarding defending your property. If you could legally batter a burgler with an iron bar legally then it would certainly deter people from carrying out burglaries.
A lot of the problem is also down to our prisons being like a better quality holiday camp than a visit to Butlins. Who would care if they went inside, they probably have a better quality of life there. This is one other things the Americans have got right, prison is prison, not a bloody free holiday. |

Re: Burglars: How far would you go.
i would make a noise coming down to "spook" them.
if i caught them upstairs in the area of my wife and kids i would punch, kick, bite, hit with anything until the threat to my family was gone, or no longer moving be it from being knocked out or dead. i wouldn't bat an eye lid killing one of them if i thought my family were at risk. |

personally i don't think anyone should face prosecution for dealing with a burglar, no matter what they do to them

Re: Burglars: How far would you go.
Hi lads, your views are pretty much the same as all the people I have spoken to in the past, they all say the same, give them a good thumping, and a few kicks to keep them down. These politicians sit in their ivory towers with all their security, hear a bump in the night phone the old bill and all it's resources turn up, A/R veichles, squad cars, dog vans, and choppers. I think they believe that's what happens if Joe Public call's 999, yeah right, next day and sometimes two weeks later, WOW!!
I say if the the criminal new that when he broke in he would get the knocked out of him and no redress he would certainly think twice about doing it. I am a chippy by trade and have work for firms that deal in emergency repairs and lock replacement, so I have come into direct contact with the victims of these burglars who have left their houses totaly wrecked, in some cases with sauces and urine, you name it all over the walls doors and bedding, not so much these days because of DNA. Then there's the human cost, some lives totaly wrecked especially the old. I remember one old lady who lived on her own and was broken into three times in eighteen month's, I went to her house each time, she was finnished and had to move on, it was heart wrenching to see. I know what I would F******g do to these bastards.

Re: Burglars: How far would you go.
In Massachusetts USA they wanted YOU to leave your house if possible. It's been changed. Just make sure you kill them in your house and not outdoors as here you will be jailed and sued.

Re: Burglars: How far would you go.
In my view it depends where they are and what means you have at hand, my view probably differs from most but i guess no one can say catagorically until they are in the situation.
Personally I have shotguns in the house and if i found someone upstairs where my kids were - then i would have no problem pulling the trigger regardless of the consequences, its something i have thought about in the past and i think the line is drawn when someone is prepared to come upstairs where there is a liklihood of being confronted - you have to assume that they are not fearful of attack or have weapons to hand to use if they are confronted - i wouldnt risk tackling someone with my bare hands in this scenario and put my family or myself at risk. However i would have much greater issue with shooting someone if they were downstairs although i would still confront them with whatever i had to hand. Its all about peoples own perception of the danger they are in - If i confronted someone down stairs with a shotgun and they came at me with a knife would i then shoot them? Yes of course i would. If they "surrendered" without a fight so to speak then thats a different issue. The law is an ass - and as far as i am concerned if you enter someones property you leave your rights at the door, its rediculous that people are in fear of prosecution for defending their family and property. Reasonable force should be anything you have to hand to deal with the threat, in my case a shot gun. There arent many burglars that wouldnt experience "weightless hands syndrome" when staring down a berreta barrel. Mitch |
