Question Is carp fishing too adventurous for a beginner?

Hi I'm George and and am looking to take up fishing, carp fishing sounds more appealing than general coarse fishing. The thing is, am I being too adventurous. Sometimes I think I should aim my sights a little lower and progress later on.

I would appreciate it someone could give me their views on this, as I would not like to spend a fair amount of money (I was thinking I could kit myself out for maybe £200), and lose interest due to biting off more than i can chew!

Re: Is carp fishing too adventurous for a beginner?

Well theres nothing wrong with starting off carp fishing.
I am relatively and i go carp fishing, i havnt caught anything massive, but i enjoy myself. I have a lake near me that has alot of carp in from like 4lb too 18lb, so i myself am not goin after anything that would break my rods etc.
Just look around and get some tips on diffrent rigs and tactics to catch them and you should be fine

Re: Is carp fishing too adventurous for a beginner?

Having gone through this myself 12 months ago the answer is NO!!!!

Yes.... there's a lot to learn but most of the people you meet will go out of their way to help you.

Couple of suggestions
1. read anything you can find on fishing etiquette - this will help you not to alienate people that can help.
2. If you want to avoid major expense buy second hand (forums can be a good for this but take advise) or buy new items that are popular e.g. Chub Outkast rods and Shimano baitrunners as it is possible to sell these for most of the new cost if you change your mind.

I also ended up reading lots of stuff on the web/magazines but this did not sink in fully until I went on a week long trip to France with friends. This non stop fishing helped to make things clearer.

Go for it but as mentioned by DeepEnd, start initially with budget but recognisable tackle as the secondhand resale value is higher if you do decide it isnt for you. I'm sure we'll all try and help you out with any questions or problems you find you face regarding actual fishing, baits, rigs etc

Re: Is carp fishing too adventurous for a beginner?

the best peice advice i have is dont get carried away trying to catch monster fish. Go to a runs water where you can catch easly and hone your skills. Many blanked sessions kill your confidence, and carp fishing is 90% confidence.

Re: Is carp fishing too adventurous for a beginner?

Carp fishing is as simple and complex as course fishing, both are as exspencive as each other. There are many day ticket carp waters that will offer a bite a chuckas well as waters that will find you working hard for a single special named fish.
You will soon find your own needs and wants from carp fishing the important thing is to remmeber to enjoy your self take care of the fish and the enviroment and get the most from your hobby.
Successful carp fishing like all fishing is about three main things.
1) Location.
2) Feed.
3) Presetation
get all three of these right and you catch fish miss one and its a nice day on the bank.
